Evolutionary Link Found between Fish and Land Animals

Paleontologists have found a species that fills the evolutionary gap between between fish and land animals. The new species, Tiktaalik roseae, has land animal parts, including a skull, a neck, ribs and parts of the limbs that are similar to four-legged animals, as well as fish-like features such as a primitive jaw, fins and scales. Tiktaalik, who lived some 375 million years ago, was a predator with sharp teeth, a crocodile-like head and a flattened body. Several well-preserved skeletal specimens have been found, ranging from 4 to 9 feet long.
